My Jungle Junction's Guide to Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve

The Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Safari Experience

Ramgarh Vishdhari was a wildlife sanctuary from 1982 and was notified as a tiger reserve in 2022, becoming Rajasthan's fourth. The reserve spans Bundi, Bhilwara and Kota districts and covers about 1,502 sq km, of which roughly 482 sq km is core and 1,020 sq km buffer.

Tourism is new. The first jungle safari was flagged off at Dalelpura in Bundi in 2023, and buffer-zone tiger safaris have been reported running since 2025. A core-zone safari has been announced but we have not confirmed that it is open, so we check status before each booking.

Two nights is a sensible stay, ideally combined with Bundi's heritage and either Ranthambore or Kota.

The hills, small streams and rocky outcrops make the forest feel wild and varied, and Bundi's step-wells and painted palace are close by.

Ramgarh Vishdhari Safari Packages

My Jungle Junction's Bestselling Ramgarh Vishdhari Safari Packages

Ramgarh Vishdhari is newer than most of the places we cover, so we plan it carefully. Our itineraries usually combine Bundi's palaces with one or two safaris, and sometimes link to Ranthambore or Mukundra Hills. Before booking, we confirm which zones are open, how permits work and the current safari timings, then arrange a guide and a comfortable base in Bundi.

How Many Safaris Should You Do in Ramgarh Vishdhari?

Start with two, add a third if sightings are quiet

With safaris still developing, the number of drives on offer can vary. We suggest planning two safaris and keeping a third in reserve, since sightings are less predictable than in older parks. The mix of terrain makes each drive different, and the quiet forest is rewarding even without a big cat on the track. A relaxed, flexible plan works best in a young safari destination.

Two safaris give you one morning and one afternoon, a fair introduction to the buffer forest and the best way to test the area before committing more time.

Three safaris improves your chances and lets you try different routes or light conditions. It is our usual recommendation for a two-night stay.

Four to six safaris is best spread across Ramgarh Vishdhari, Mukundra and Ranthambore, so you compare the landscapes rather than repeat one.

The reserve suits travellers who enjoy exploring a new park, birders and photographers who value space. It is less suited to those who want guaranteed sightings.

We discuss your priorities before recommending a number.

Ramgarh Vishdhari is large, but only part of it is open to visitors. Safaris began in the buffer zone, with the Dalelpura area near Bundi being the first jungle safari site flagged off in 2023. A core-zone safari was announced for later but we have not confirmed that it is running. Because zone numbers and gates are not yet standardised, we list the parts of the reserve you will actually hear about and confirm the current gate and timing when you book.

The Wildlife of Ramgarh Vishdhari

Beyond the Tiger: Ramgarh Vishdhari's Wildlife

Ramgarh Vishdhari protects dry deciduous Aravalli forest and supports tiger, leopard, sloth bear, striped hyena and jackal. Herbivores include sambar, chital, nilgai and chinkara, with wild boar common. Reports suggest about six tigers live in the reserve, including cubs, though numbers shift as animals move along the corridor to Ranthambore and Mukundra Hills. Birdlife is good too, with peafowl, owls, raptors and a variety of woodland species, and the rocky slopes also shelter monitor lizards and snakes. Reptiles and butterflies add interest in warmer months.

Famous Tigers of Ramgarh Vishdhari

A handful of tigers on the Ranthambore corridor

Ramgarh Vishdhari does not yet have a long list of famous tigers. What it has is a group of animals, reported at about six including cubs, many of them dispersing from Ranthambore. Names and numbers change, so we confirm the latest information with the forest department rather than quote an out-of-date list. Ask your guide for the latest news on the day of your drive.

Ranthambore corridor Dalelpura Bundi Aravalli forest

The story here is about movement. Young tigers born in Ranthambore have travelled north-east through the Aravallis and settled in Ramgarh Vishdhari, which is exactly why the area was upgraded to a tiger reserve.

The reserve was a sanctuary from 1982, and only in 2022 did it receive full tiger-reserve status. Since then, the forest department has extended monitoring and begun opening limited tourism.

We avoid quoting specific tiger names or codes unless a sighting is recent and confirmed. Ask your guide on the day for the latest news about which animals are around.

Seeing a tiger here would be a genuine privilege, not an expectation.

Your Stay in Ramgarh Vishdhari

Where to Stay near Ramgarh Vishdhari

Bundi is the natural base, offering heritage havelis, boutique hotels and simple guesthouses within an hour of the reserve. The old town gives you palaces, step-wells and good food in the evenings, which pairs well with early-morning safaris. A few forest-edge resorts are appearing near Dalelpura, though choice is still small. Choose by drive time to your entry point, how early you must leave and whether you want a quiet property or a town with sightseeing. Book ahead from November to February.

Why Should You Visit Ramgarh Vishdhari

A new Aravalli tiger forest with a culture-rich base

Ramgarh Vishdhari is important because it joins up two tiger populations, allowing animals to disperse between Ranthambore and Mukundra Hills. Visiting early helps support the local economy as tourism takes shape, and you will see the forest before it becomes busy. It also offers Bundi, one of Rajasthan's most atmospheric small cities, so your trip combines wildlife and heritage. If you have already done the big reserves and want something less polished and more exploratory, this is a rewarding choice. Just keep expectations realistic about tiger sightings. Visiting now also means your spending reaches local drivers, guides and homestays at the very start of tourism here, which helps the forest earn its keep.
