Veerangana Durgavati Safari Packages
We plan Veerangana Durgavati itineraries around the way the park actually works, not a generic template. Because tourism here is still developing, we check the current permit position, access and accommodation ourselves before we confirm a trip. Amit and the team book permits and vehicles early, choose lodges for the gate you will use, and can combine Veerangana Durgavati with Kanha, Pench or Bandhavgarh so the trip has a sensible rhythm. Tell us your dates and group, and we will build around them.
How Many Safaris Should You Do in Veerangana Durgavati?
With safari infrastructure still developing, we suggest keeping your plans modest. Most guests take two or three drives over a short stay, ideally as an extension to a more established reserve. The reserve is large and the terrain is varied, so the number of safaris you can take depends on what is open and which sector you enter. We confirm this with the forest department before you travel.
Best Safari Zones
Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve is a large reserve with about 1,414 square kilometres notified as core and about 925 as buffer. The old Nauradehi sanctuary forms most of the area. Visitor access is still being organised, and we have not been able to confirm a published list of numbered safari zones or gates. A field report describes a safari starting at a control centre inside the core. Because of this, we do not quote zone names that may be wrong. Instead, we confirm the current entry points, timings and vehicle arrangements with the forest department before your trip, and share them in writing.
About 1,414 sq km notified as core. Access for visitors is limited and arranged through the forest department.
About 925 sq km around the core, with forest and villages. Some visits and drives may take place here.
Historic fort inside the former Nauradehi sanctuary, a possible stop on a longer visit. Check access with us.
How to Reach & When to Visit
Jabalpur is the nearest major airport for most itineraries. Bhopal is another option. Distances to the reserve are long, so we plan the transfer for you.
Sagar, Damoh and Narsinghpur are on railway lines through central Madhya Pradesh. We recommend a taxi or lodge transfer from the nearest station.
Roads connect the reserve to Sagar, Damoh, Narsinghpur and Jabalpur. Rural stretches vary in quality, so allow more time than the map suggests.
The cooler months give the most comfortable visits. Entry arrangements and park status should be checked before any monsoon trip.
Pleasant weather, clear light and the most comfortable period for forest drives and birdwatching.
Hot and dry, with animals gathering near water. Mornings are best. Take sun protection.
Heavy rain makes roads difficult, and access is often restricted. Confirm status with us before planning a monsoon visit.
MJJ Insight : Because tourism is still developing, we confirm access, lodging and permits directly before every booking. Do not plan on a fixed itinerary until we have done that.
The Wildlife of Veerangana Durgavati
Reports from the reserve list about 18 mammal species and about 177 species of bird. Leopard, wolf, jackal, Indian fox, striped hyena and sloth bear are recorded, along with several kinds of deer and antelope, including the four-horned antelope. Tigers are present, and the reserve's creation aims to support their recovery, but sightings are uncommon. The open forest and rocky outcrops suit raptors and other dry-country birds. Because this is a lightly visited place, wildlife can be shy, and patience matters more than speed. A good guide makes a difference.
The Making of a Tiger Reserve
This reserve has no famous named tigers, and we will not invent any. Its story is how it came to exist. Notified in 2023, it merged Nauradehi with the Durgavati area and became the state's seventh tiger reserve. It is also one of the largest in the state, so even a short visit covers only a fraction of the landscape, and a local guide is essential.
Your Stay in Veerangana Durgavati
Accommodation near the reserve is basic, with small hotels and guest houses in Sagar, Damoh and Narsinghpur and a few forest rest houses. There is no established cluster of lodges at the gates yet, so many guests stay in a nearby town and travel in each morning. Choose by the entry point you will use and the length of the transfer. We recommend checking forest-department rest house availability well ahead. Because the situation is changing, we confirm lodging details directly and tell you plainly what is and is not available.

Why Should You Visit Veerangana Durgavati
Veerangana Durgavati is a chance to see a reserve while it is still being written. It is large, quiet and little visited, with leopards, wolves, sloth bears and a growing tiger story. Its creation matters for central Indian conservation, and it adds a link between forest blocks in the region. It is not a comfortable first tiger trip, because facilities are simple and sightings uncertain. But for travellers who enjoy discovering new places and are happy with flexible plans, it offers something the famous parks cannot: space and a sense of discovery. We help you decide if it fits your trip.
