Explore Tadoba’s Core & Buffer Zones

Tadoba has 6 core zones and 14 buffer zones, each offering a different safari experience, landscape and tiger territory. Some zones are known for particular tigers or regular sightings, while others offer a more unpredictable, exploratory safari experience. A well-planned Tadoba holiday should include a combination of core and buffer safaris, giving you wider coverage of the reserve, access to different habitats and more opportunities for memorable sightings.

Moharli

The most familiar gate. Lakes, meadows and forest edges that draw animals throughout the day — a well-rounded introduction to Tadoba.

Kolara

Long bamboo corridors, gentle slopes and soft morning light. Encourages slow, patient tracking. Strong tiger presence.

Navegaon, Nimdhela & Alizanza

Dense forest patches, sudden clearings, unpredictable movement. For visitors who enjoy reading the jungle.

Agarzari & Adegaon–Dewada

Fly into Nagpur (NAG). 3–4 hour drive to Tadoba. Connected to Mumbai, Delhi, Pune & Hyderabad.

By Train

Chandrapur is the closest major railhead — about an hour from many safari gates. Nagpur offers wider connectivity.

By Road

Mumbai 10–12 hrs, Pune 8–9 hrs, Hyderabad ~9 hrs via Maha Samruddhi Marg.

Best Time to Visit

Tadoba is a year-round wildlife destination, with every season changing the way the forest looks, feels and behaves. Winter brings cooler mornings, spring changes the rhythm of the forest, the hotter months can be particularly rewarding for tiger sighting

Famous Tigers of Tadoba

Legendary Tigers & Tigresses Ruling Tadoba

Tadoba has produced some of India’s most recognisable individual tigers, each with a story that adds another dimension to the safari. Maya became one of the reserve’s most celebrated tigresses, remembered for her frequent sightings, strong territorial presence and the generations of tigers that followed her. Waghdoh, one of Tadoba’s legendary males, was known for his size, dominance and influence on the reserve’s tiger population. Matkasur became another iconic male, followed by the next generation, including Chota Matka. At the same time, tigers such as Bajrang, Choti Tara, Sonam and Junabai have built their own reputations among guides, photographers and regular visitors.  Today, Tadoba continues to produce new tiger stories. Mama, Shambhu, Junabai, Kajri, Choti Madhu, Chandni and Chota Dadiyal, for instance, remain among the reserve’s most frequently sighted and popular tigers. Tiger territories, dominance, and family groups keep changing naturally, which is part of what makes a Tadoba safari so fascinating.
